What is it?

Channel 4 is a British-owned public channel that offers multiple different genres of experimental and unique programming. First aired in 1982, the channel has produced many award-winning shows such as Big Brother and The Great British Bake Off.

When did you develop an interest to it and how?

Through the works of Martin Lambie-Nairn, I first discovered the channel back in 2009 when searching for idents on Youtube and stumbling upon his work for Channel 4 and many other brands. However, Channel 4 was the one that left the most impact.

Why does this interest me in general?

Honestly, what hasn't been said about Channel 4 and it's branding? It's constantly refreshing to see newer and more experimental ideas and takes on the recognisable 9-block logo, which is just as refreshing and experimental as it's wild variety of shows that has been made across it's award-winning 40 year history. The symbol continues to be an inspiration to many and the channel continues to be as surprising and as welcoming as ever. Channel 4 may not be as good as it used to be, but the impact it has left on UK television should never be forgotten.
